Great New Restaurant
It has always been my practice not to eat at a new restaurant for at least 1 to 2 months after it has opened. The reasons being are: 1. New restaurants are usually crowded and 2. They don’t have the systems figured out yet. This tends to makes for lousy service, running out of food, etc. Havana’s which is located where The Cottage was, (formerly Zorbas, but thank goodness they are gone!), opened on Thursday, March 5th and we ate there last night, Sunday, March 8th.
We went with two other couples from our neighborhood, Richard and Joan Van Ham and Richard and Kris Roehl/Bell. When we first walked in, we were greeted by the owner. A table was being arranged for the 6 of us before our entire party entered the restaurant. We were seated and immediately greeted by our waiter, TJ. Menus were distributed and drink orders taken.
Havana’s has a pretty good wine list and TJ was able to recommend a Chardonnay that Richard (Lance), Joan and I ordered. The menu is very nice with appetizers, which we did not try, salads, and entrees. They don’t have an overwhelming menu, but they do have steaks, fresh seafood, pasta, etc. I ordered the Mahi Mahi, blackened. Joyce got the chicken and mushrooms over pasta, Richard and Richard each ordered the scallops, Joan had the vegetable lasagna and Kris had the Caesar Salad with grilled chicken.
As we enjoyed our drinks, we were served bread with roasted red pepper butter that was excellent. When the food arrived, and it was all served at the same time by three servers, everyone raved over their choice. We pretty much all shared a taste of each other’s dinner. I must say, that while my fish was excellent, the scallops were absolutely the best I have ever had. Joyce’s chicken pasta dish was also very, very good. Bottom line, we were all very, very impressed.
Joyce and my bill for our dinners was right at $50.00. (Richard and Joan paid for the wine.) All in all, we were very impressed. Obviously, this restaurant, staff and management know the restaurant business. Welcome to Pleasure Island Havana’s.
