The SeaWitch is Alive and Well
Although a fire recently damaged part of the SeaWitch's Tiki Bar, the remainder of the SeaWitch will continue to be open, serve food and be a hotspot for your favorite bands. The entertainment line up for this weekend includes Hot Water Wagon on Friday Night and Just Woke Up on Saturday Night. According to management, the Tiki Bar will be rebuilt and be even better than before.
Carolina Beach Seafood Company Grand Opening
The Carolina Beach Seafood Company is celebrating its Grand Opening this Memorial Day Weekend. Featuring fresh local seafood, come in and check out their large assortment of fresh shellfish & fish - including just caught Spanish Mackerel. You will also find an appealing assortment of beer, wine & gourmet food products.
Memorial Day Line Up at Shanty's II
Shanty's II provides you with a week full of entertainment. Friday night will be "Dance Mix" with all of your favorite "Shag" tunes featuring the Island's own DJ Mike Worley Saturday night is "Shag Night". Doors will open at 7:00 p.m. each night. Wednesday, June 2nd is Line Dancing Lessons for $5.00. Thursday night is the first session of beginning Shag lessons which is a four week session for $30. For those who wish to drop in to brush up on a step, it's only $10. Shanty's II is a private club and membership is only $10.00 for the entire year. Anyn Sneed has joined Plaza Hair Design located at 1009 N. Lake Park Boulevard in Carolina Beach. Aryn recently moved to the beach from Gastonia, NC. On the second and fourth Friday of June, July and August, plan on bringing your blankets and lawn chairs so the whole family can boogie the night away to some of the best local and regional bands. Big Print Block Party Art Festival 2010
On May 22nd from 9:00 a.m. until 4:00 p.m., come see giant 4 x 8 foot woodcuts printed with a steamroller LIVE! This year's visiting artist is Julia Morrisroe of Florida. Come and see local and regional art of many mediums. Free art projects for kids and there will be plenty of Arts and Crafts booths as well. www.capefearpress.com
6th Annual Battle for the North End Cup Volleyball Tournament
Come down to the Carolina Beach Fishing Pier on May 22nd and enjoy a day of fun in the sun and sand as our lifeguards compete for the Battle of the North End Cup. Proceeds help support your Pleasure Island Lifeguard Association. Sponsor a lifeguard team for $50 or form your own team. There will also be a Paintball Human Target Shooting and a 50/50 drawing. Hope aboard the Winner Cruise Queen for this wonderful tour. This guided tour will include over 55 known historic sites from Carolina Beach Marina, through snow's Cut and down the Cape Fear River southward to the Atlantic Ocean off Bald Head Island. The Summer Season officially kicks off next week with the start of the Boardwalk Blast, Fireworks by the Sea and the Free Movies at the Lake Series. Tuesday night at the Boardwalk enjoy "Family Night" with bouncy houses, Karaoke and much more. Wednesday night is Bingo on the Boardwalk and Jazz at the Lake. Thursday night at 6:30 p.m., is the free concert at the Gazebo featuring Mojo Collins belting out the best in blues followed by the Chamber's Fireworks by the Sea at 9:00 p.m. Friday night, the fun continues with another concert at the Gazebo, starting at 6:30 p.m., featuring Machine Gun playing the best in classic rock. Stick around because there will be another fireworks show at 9:00 p.m. for those just getting into town for the weekend.
Saturday, don't forget to swing by the Lake in Carolina Beach to pick up the freshest fruits and veggies at the Carolina Beach Farmers Market. The market runs each Saturday from 8:00 a.m. until 1:00 p.m.
Lastly, you certainly won't want to miss the start of the Free Movies at the Lake. We are kicking off the season with the wildly popular Avatar. The movies start at dusk (around 8:45 p.m.) There will be concessions available, offering popcorn, candy, soft drinks and more at affordable prices. Also, each week the Chamber will be holding a food drive benefiting a local charity so be sure to bring a non-perishable food item with you.

First Friday of the Month Fish Fry at the American Legion – Once again the American Legion is providing you with a delicious meal at an affordable price. Today from 11:00 a.m. until 7:00 p.m., while supplies last, the American Legion is offering Fresh Fried Fish, Hushpuppies, Cole Slaw, Potato Salad, Corn on the Cob, Iced Tea & Coffee for $8.00 per person. Third Annual Island Women Yard & Bake Sale – Before heading down to the Chowder Cook Off, be sure to stop by the Island Women’s Third Annual Yard & Bake Sale. There will be home goods, clothing, tools and more. Take home a cake, pie or cookies for dessert. Also, place your order for a composting worm box. All proceeds from the sale are dedicated to making life better on Pleasure Island. The sale takes place from 7:00 – 1:00 p.m., at 206 Fayetteville Avenue in Carolina Beach.
Bingo Bash is Back at the Katie B. Hines Center – On the third Saturday of each month, head out to the K.B. Hines Senior Center for Bingo Bash. There are 17 games with a pot totaling $2500.00. Doors open at 9:30 a.m. and the games start at 11:00. All games are included in the pack. Seating is limited however so it is a first come-first serve basis.
